Tamil Nadu vs Tripura Scorecard: Match Overview

Tripura won the toss and chose to field, giving Tamil Nadu the first opportunity to establish a competitive total. The opening phase did not go exactly to plan for Tamil Nadu: N Jagadeesan was dismissed for a duck and Washington Sundar made only nine.

That brought Andre Siddarth into the middle, and he provided the innings with its most important batting contribution. Siddarth scored 70 from 86 balls, including six fours and two sixes. Baba Indrajith added 48 from 62 balls, giving Tamil Nadu a useful partnership in the middle overs.

Tamil Nadu finished strongly. S Mohamed Ali made an unbeaten 46 from 47 balls, while Karthick Manikandan struck 35 not out from 30 deliveries. Those late contributions helped Tamil Nadu reach 259/6 from their 50 overs, a respectable total on a pitch where Tripura’s bowlers had initially kept things under control.

Tamil Nadu first-innings scorecard

Batter Runs Balls
Washington Sundar 9 30
N Jagadeesan 0 6
Andre Siddarth 70 86
Baba Indrajith 48 62
Boopathi Kumar 27 40
S Mohamed Ali 46* 47
Sai Kishore 1 1
Karthick Manikandan 35* 30
Tamil Nadu 259/6 50 overs

Manisankar Murasingh was Tripura’s most successful bowler, taking 2/50 in 10 overs. Abhijit Sarkar and Ajoy Sarkar also picked up wickets.

How Tamil Nadu Built a Defendable Total

Tamil Nadu’s innings was not built around one huge century. Instead, several contributions combined to produce a score that eventually proved more than enough.

Andre Siddarth’s 70 was particularly important because it stabilized the innings after the early loss of Jagadeesan. His six fours and two sixes came at a strike rate of 81.39, providing both accumulation and boundary options without taking excessive risks.

Indrajith’s 48 was another steady contribution. He rotated the strike and helped Tamil Nadu recover from the early wickets. Once he departed, the lower order shifted gears.

That final phase mattered. Mohamed Ali’s 46 not out came at almost a run-a-ball, while Manikandan’s 35 from 30 deliveries lifted the scoring rate. Tamil Nadu ultimately finished at 5.18 runs per over, which gave their bowlers a useful cushion.

It was a good example of a 50-over innings where the final 10 overs can change the character of the scorecard.

Tripura’s Chase: A Strong Start Wasn’t Enough

Tripura needed 260 to win, but their chase never developed into a sustained partnership-driven innings.

Tamil Nadu’s bowlers kept creating pressure, and wickets arrived regularly enough to prevent Tripura from building the sort of long partnership required for a successful chase. Tripura eventually reached 205 all out in 42.4 overs, leaving Tamil Nadu with a 54-run victory.

The key turning point was the spell from Gurjapneet Singh.

The left-arm seamer finished with outstanding figures of 6/26 from eight overs, making him the clear Player of the Match. His six wickets effectively broke the backbone of Tripura’s chase.

Tripura’s innings at a glance

Team Score Overs Result
Tripura 205 all out 42.4 Lost
Tamil Nadu 259/6 50 Won by 54 runs

Tripura’s eventual total meant they needed another 55 runs when their final wicket fell. More importantly, they were unable to take the game deep enough to put serious pressure on Tamil Nadu.

Gurjapneet Singh’s Six-Wicket Masterclass

If one statistic defines this match, it is 6/26.

Gurjapneet Singh bowled eight overs and conceded only 26 runs while claiming six wickets. That works out to an economy rate of 3.25, an excellent figure in a 50-over chase.

His performance was even more valuable because Tamil Nadu had not posted an enormous total. At 259, the team needed its bowling attack to remain disciplined. Gurjapneet delivered exactly that.

A six-wicket haul also changes the psychology of a chase. Once wickets begin falling at regular intervals, batters have fewer opportunities to settle, partnerships become harder to build and the required run rate starts to look less important than simply surviving.

That is effectively what happened here. Tamil Nadu’s bowlers turned a defendable total into a comfortable margin.

Andre Siddarth Leads Tamil Nadu’s Batting

While Gurjapneet took the headline award, Andre Siddarth’s 70 was arguably the foundation of Tamil Nadu’s victory.

His innings came after Jagadeesan was dismissed for a duck and Washington Sundar had struggled to nine. At that point, Tamil Nadu needed someone to absorb pressure and rebuild the innings.

Siddarth did that without completely shutting down the scoring. His 70 included six boundaries and two sixes, and his 86-ball stay gave the middle order time to settle.

Baba Indrajith’s 48 also deserves attention. Together, the pair ensured Tamil Nadu did not collapse after the early setbacks.

Then came the lower-order acceleration. Mohamed Ali and Manikandan added the finishing touches, allowing Tamil Nadu to cross 250.

That combination—Siddarth’s stability followed by late aggression—was central to the final score of 259/6.

Tamil Nadu vs Tripura: Bowling Analysis

The bowling numbers show just how differently the two sides handled the second innings.

For Tripura, Manisankar Murasingh took two wickets and bowled his full 10-over allocation. He conceded 50 runs, while Abhijit Sarkar finished with 1/43 and Ajoy Sarkar with 1/49.

Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, had the match’s decisive spell. Gurjapneet Singh’s 6/26 gave them the breakthrough wickets they needed.

His figures were supported by a disciplined attack that kept Tripura below the required scoring rate. Once Tripura slipped behind the chase, the pressure increased with every wicket.

For a team defending 259, that is the ideal pattern: make the target awkward rather than simply relying on a last-over finish.

What Decided the Match?

Three factors stand out from the scorecard.

1. Tamil Nadu recovered after early wickets

The dismissal of Jagadeesan for zero could easily have put Tamil Nadu on the back foot. Instead, Siddarth and Indrajith rebuilt the innings.

2. Tamil Nadu finished the innings well

The final contributions from Mohamed Ali and Karthick Manikandan pushed the score toward 260. That extra 20–30 runs often makes a meaningful difference in List A cricket.

3. Gurjapneet destroyed the chase

A total of 259 is defendable, but it still requires wickets. Gurjapneet supplied them in abundance, finishing with six wickets and ending Tripura’s hopes well before the 50th over.

Recent Tamil Nadu vs Tripura Record

The matchup has recently favoured Tamil Nadu.

According to Wisden’s head-to-head record for their List A meetings, Tamil Nadu had won all four of the listed encounters, including the 54-run victory on January 6, 2026. Previous victories came by 187 runs in 2019, eight wickets in 2018 and 262 runs in 2017.

The teams also met in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in December 2025. That match was another clear Tamil Nadu victory: they scored 204/5 and bowled Tripura out for 143, winning by 61 runs. Sai Kishore’s 87 from 39 balls earned him Player of the Match.

That makes the January 2026 Vijay Hazare Trophy result part of a broader recent pattern rather than an isolated result.
